Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative including angels, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in strength within the city.

Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of adventurers who will split off from the main group to begin their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).

The Reason for Division

With 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear out of place, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the group knows exactly where to go next after a intense opening clash with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing started the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his own means, invading the secret base, striking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then settled his debts and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
  • The adventurer has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their status as key figures in the powerful family could enable the team enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, Teor swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.

Future Episodes

According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Questers and Planners groups.

Audiences can expect learning which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
